The foundation of Dean’s sound can be traced back to a strong handful of inspirations, Phil and Tommy Emmanuel, Dire Straits, ZZ Top and John Fogherty which stem from some of his earliest childhood memories.
Based in Sydney, Dean has performed headline shows and festivals, touring both nationally and internationally since hitting the scene in 2014.
He has spent the past four years in his Sydney studio writing and producing this new material and committing to some much-needed soul discovery.

Fresh off the back of his last single, ranking Number 5 on the AMRAP Metro Charts, Dean Ray’s new single, “Freedom”, featuring Ella Jones, is now available.
(Released Internationally from Friday 30 December 2022).
Freedom, the second single off the Mr Man EP, is the first written collaboration between Dean and Megan Washington (including the delicate harmonies of Brisbane-based Songbird, Ella Jones) depicts the fleeing of a commitment through a melancholy lens.
Freedom addresses the “emotional wall we tend to build around ourselves to keep us safe from heartache”. The realness of the lyrics is balanced by the gentle acoustic melodies maintained throughout the song.
Speaking on the single, Dean said,
““Megan and her background in music gave this song a flavour that I could not have achieved without her input. A big thanks to Ella for her amazing vocal on the track, six years searching for that harmony and she hit it out of the park.””

It’s a piece that questions the structure of today’s society throughout its lyrics whilst providing a sense of unity within the music;
“Is it all for one or one for all?!”
Speaking on the single, Dean said,
““The division between elites, middle class and low-income earners has become far more evident to me in recent years. I guess that has been the inspiration behind putting my pen to paper and creating this track. Witnessing hard-working people and small business owners declaring bankruptcy and/or struggling to make ends meet, really hit home with me and I grew tired of bottling it up.””
